As a crazy fan of romantic movies and novels, I always think about Bali as a paradise for a sweet escape where you can enjoy every single sip of cocktails in the dreamy sunlight or practice Yoga at a tranquil resort by the sea, hearing nothing but the song of the waves. Bali put me in charm like the way it did to Liz in Eat, Pray and Love and probably, to anyone who sets their foot on this wonderland.
I went to Bali alone, just like Liz, to find my own self. Staying at a homestay in the pretty Ubud town turned out to be a wise decision since every time I opened the window, my eyes could reach the white sandy beach leading to the blue ocean, boundless green paddy fields, mountains after mountains or the enormous smoking volcano. Ubud is definitely the heart of Bali. The friendliness and hospitality of the local truly warmed my lonely and homesick heart. I could freely share my stories with the owner of the homestay, bargain as much as I want at any shops or even in the Ubud market and leave without buying anything.
Bali is known as the island of temples; therefore, I couldn’t help visiting the antique and sacred Hindu temples there. The Besakih is perched up the side of a mountain while the Tanah Lot is erected in the middle of the sea. From the shore, watching the Tanah Lot temple glowing in the sunset, I find my heart skipping a beat. The panoramic view of the Uluwatu beach from the Pura Luhur temple lying high upon a mountain is also amazing.
I spent days wandering around Bali, feeling like the time was turned back. I saw gardens rich of fruits. I went to souvenir shops full of tiny handicraft products. I smelt the aroma of grilled-seafood or curry blown from restaurants. I stepped out of the town and ran into ladder fields surrounded by jungles and millennial trees. The serene life of the local cast away all my worries and sadness. I learnt to live in harmony with the beautiful nature of Bali.
If you feel overwhelmed, leave everything behind and go to Bali. Slow down your pace and spend a day enjoying every moment of life. Join a Yoga class to meditate and filter your mind. Eat, Pray and Love.
